UAlberta Acceptance Rate / Admission Averages

Visit Admissions for Universities in Canada for Details on Admission to all Canadian Universities

  • Each undergraduate degree program has its own competitive admission average. This average varies from year to year.
  • Your average will be calculated based on the five subject requirements that you present for your program of choice. This calculation will happen after you apply to UAlberta and submit your transcripts and documentation.

If you are applying to enter after your 12th year (or equivalent): You must have a minimum application average of 70% or higher (on a 50% pass scale) in the five subjects required for your program of choice. Many UAlberta programs, however, will require a higher competitive average. Meeting the minimum does not guarantee admission.

If you are applying to enter after completing some postsecondary work: You will need to present an Admission Grade Point Average (AGPA) of at least 2.0 on the UAlberta 4-point grading scale (“C” or above) on university transferable work. Meeting the minimum does not guarantee admission.

HOW DO THE AVERAGES CONVERT? ARE MY GRADES COMPETITIVE?

The following are only guidelines of what GPA/grades/marks are considered competitive.

Not all international grading scales are equal and the final determination on the average will be made by the Office of the Registrar and Student Awards upon submission of an application for admission. These guidelines are for informational purposes only. In the case of discrepancy between this website and the University of Alberta International Admissions Unit, the decision of the International Admissions Unit is final.

BRITISH CURRICULUM (GCE)

  • A- and O-Level grades should be at A and B, with no individual grade lower than a C.

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE (IB)

  • Approximately 30–35 IB predicted points on the full diploma, including bonus points.
  • Full IB Diploma students may be eligible to receive admission based on predicted scores. Competitive predicted IB scores for admission vary by Faculty. See competitive predicted scores for 2014 admission (PDF)
  • Final IB grades in the range of 4 to 7 are considered competitive.
